About Me

About Me.

Kia Ora - Welcome to my website 'Earth Stories'

I'm Gillian Maclean a photographer based in Invercargill, New Zealand.

My passion for photography has led me on an amazing journey. I have experienced wonderous sights and and stood in awe of mother nature's beauty.  Photography has helped me to see the detail in the world around me and appreciate the beauty that surrounds our every day lives.

I feel very fortunate to live in Invercargill, close to some of the most beautiful scenic delights on the Southern Scenic Route's rugged, wild and varied coastline.  I am naturally drawn to the sea and the wild life that lives by it, and love nothing more than exploring it in my weekends with camera in hand.   The rewards are capturing images that tell a story as my eye sees it.

My photographic achievements to date have been beyond my expectations and I can only attribute this to the absolute passion, dedication and commitment I have to continuously learning and improving my photographic skills.

I hope you enjoy my images as much as I enjoyed capturing them.

Thanks for dropping by.

A Journey Along the Southern Scenic Route

'A Journey Along the Southern Scenic Route' is a landscape photographic exploration showcasing coastal locations along the the 610 km journey that starts in Queenstown, meandering its way down Lake Wakatipu, and winding its way through lesser-known gems of Western Southland, onto scenic delights, in Invercargill and Bluff, before winding up through the Catlins, ending in Dunedin.

Ranked as one of the Top 10 touring routes in the world the Southern Scenic Route boasts spectacular scenery with the coastline blending seamlessly with the sea.  Scattered along its majestic shores are lighthouses, rock formations, chiseled cliffs and boat cemeteries.  Each element in the diverse scenery adds to the overall beauty of this journey.  Attracting both local and international visitors, it is estimated up to 2,500 visitors can be touring its diverse highways at any one time.

The goal of this project, was to photograph a collection of landscape images taken at various locations, including Department of Conservation sites, along the coastline of the Southern Scenic Route that encapsulates the essence of this stunning visual journey.  Focusing on the rugged coastline, the journey will follow around the southernmost tip of the South Island, continuing up the remote, stunning coastal stretch, between Invercargill, Balclutha and Dunedin.
